The taste for environmental awareness
The Blue Flag Programme is an educational programme for sustainable development, promoted in Portugal by the European Blue Flag Association.
This award aims to raise awareness for sustainable development in coastal, river and lake areas, beaches, recreational ports and marinas. Also recreational and eco tourism vessels that apply for and meet a set of criteria related to Environmental Information and Education, bathing water quality, Environmental Management, Safety and Services, Social Responsibility and community involvement.
The Blue Flag is a symbol of quality that distinguishes the effort of various entities in promoting the coexistence of local development, along with respect for the environment. The Blue Flag raises the level of awareness of citizens in general, of decision makers in particular, with the need to protect marine, coastal and lakeside environment.
